Considering I’ve only known Heidi Alexander for a relatively short period of time—since our wonderful collaboration on The Stockport Collection project in 2021—we’ve transcended the client/designer relationship and become firm pals. Heidi is feisty, worldly, curious, warm, intelligent, fun, and loyal. She has a natural eye for photographic composition, from the Stockport Market images of 1976–1977 to those featured in these two Postcards booklets, published in late 2025, and in her ongoing observations—often from the top deck of an Edinburgh bus.

Postcards from the Air holds extraordinary landscape images and views of First Nation tribes in their villages, taken during a six-seater plane journey over Utah’s Canyonlands and the Grand Canyon in 1972, with pilot Dan and Jesse, Heidi’s father.

Four years later, she embarked on a madcap and memorable 15-day road trip from Edinburgh to Morocco—and back—in a Mini Clubman; the images from that journey now appear in the second booklet, Postcards from Morocco.

Heidi is currently editing further images from road trips to Greece, Italy, and Spain (via Berlin) from 1973–1976, which will complete the Postcards set.

There’s a light touch to my design of these small booklets—the images speak for themselves—though the covers suggest the window shapes of the Beechcraft Bonanza aircraft and the Mini Clubman, from which Heidi made her photographs.
